History and Geography are covered through themes of work following the National Curriculum Programmes of Study. Where possible, children learn about the past and their environment through first-hand sources. We make use of our local area to pursue historical and geographical inquiry as well as finding out about how people lived long ago and places far away. In the recent past, the inspiration for our BcL500 Words writing competition linked heavily with Victorian history and the church. We increasingly use high-quality non-fiction texts to further enhance the learning experience, for example, year groups in key stage 2 frequently dip into Steve Noon's A Street Through Time to help visualise times in history.
