PE

Led by Mrs Holt

The school is proud to have achieved the Active Mark Award for sport. This recognises our commitment to PE, School Sport and Sports’ Club. All children participate in Physical Education lessons that include apparatus work, educational gymnastics, dance, athletics and games.

Swimming is an essential element within the curriculum and EYFS, KS1 and KS2 children participate through the use of the local pool in Gainsborough throughout the year.

The PE curriculum at Blyton cum Laughton Church of England Primary School inspires all children to succeed and excel in competitive sports and other physically demanding activities. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed our whole school values. We are proud of our commitment to sport and the success children have experienced in recent years both representing the school and as individuals.

When learning in PE we hope children will:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of activities
  • be physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives

Our curriculum includes:

  • dance
  • gymnastics
  • games (such as football, netball, cricket, hockey, rounders, tennis)
  • athletics
  • swimming for all
  • table tennis
  • paralympic sports
  • outdoor and adventurous activities

Additionally, we also offer the opportunity for our children to take part in a residential stay in Derbyshire, experiencing the ‘real outdoors’.  Activities include: climbing, archery, bouldering and a stream walk, amongst others. This is an excellent opportunity for the children to:

  • develop social awareness,
  • build confidence and other personal qualities
  • develop teamwork and related skills

Competitions and Festivals

Our children take part in a variety of competitions and festivals in a range of different sporting activities through the Gainsborough and District Sports Association, and the Cherry Willingham Sports Partnership.  Recently, this has included:

  • Inter-school football league

  • athletics - track and field competition

  • swimming gala

  • quick sticks hockey

  • mini-tennis clubs

At Blyton cum Laughton Church of England Primary School we utilise the expertise of our staff, sports coach (Mr Johnson) and whole school community.  We have been able to offer a range of clubs both at a lunch time and after school
