Severe Weather Procedures

Blyton cum Laughton Primary School will stay open if at all possible during periods of severe weather.  However, there may be times when we have to consider closing the school to ensure the safety of all children and staff.  This may also include the condition of the school site in some instances.

Should weather conditions mean that the school can not open on that day, parents will be notified of the decision in the following ways:

  • By text message.
  • By local radio
    • Lincs FM (102.2 FM)
    • BBC Radio Lincolnshire (94.9 FM, 104.7 FM)
  • Through this website.

If the school is required to close at a time within the school day, parents will be notified of the decision in the following ways:

  • By text message.
  • By local radio
    • Lincs FM (102.2 FM)
    • BBC Radio Lincolnshire (94.9 FM and 104.7 FM)
  • Through this website.
  • By telephone if any children are not collected by the specified time.

Please note:

Parents and carers have the responsibility of getting children to and from school safely, and need to decide if the journey is safe when severe weather has affected roads and pathways.  Parents should inform school if their child is absent due to severe conditions making the journey unsafe.  Please consider conditions carefully and only keep children at home if conditions are in your opinion unsafe.

Please also ensure that children are dressed appropriately for weather conditions and have a suitable warm coat and shoes/boots that have a good grip in icy conditions.  Children may wear wellington boots to and from school, but will be required to change into school shoes or plimsolls whilst within the school building.
